Cave gates are a way to allow the movement of bats into and out of caves and mines, while limiting access to humans in order to not disturb bats during sensitive times of the year, like hibernation. Asheville Field Office biologist Sue Cameron unlocks a cave gate to access portions of an abandoned North Carolina iron mine during a bat survey.
