Fisheries biologists Michelle Workman of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, right, and Elif Wilkins of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration implant a tiny transmitter in a juvenile spring-run Chinook salmon, enabling the San Joaquin River Restoration Program to track the salmon’s journey from the river release site to the ocean.
