Review of the Gulf of Mexico red snapper fishery

This existing literature contains only few and incomplete descriptions of the red snapper fishery. Comprehensive descriptions have been made at various times by Stearns (1885); Jarvis (1935); and Camber (1955). There is, however, no up-to-date description. Since so many innovations in vessels, gear, and methods have been made in the past few years, and because the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries has received numerous requests for information on the red snapper and grouper fisher, it is necessary to redescribe the fishery to include those changes.
