Fish biologists retrieved the Iron Creek lineage of Gila trout from southwestern New Mexico after the Sacaton Fire in 2026. These biologists took a helicopter into the active fire zone and have wildland firefighter training and maintain their certifications for such occasions when they need to help with fish evacuations.
