A northern harrier sits on an elk thistle plant in an open grassland at Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Northern harriers are a common bird of prey at the Refuge and can be seen flying low and hovering over grassy areas in search of rodents. James "Newt" Perdue/USFWS Volunteer.
