Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Cedar Valley Wildlife Management Area Shooting Range Project, Lincoln County, Nebraska Final Environmental Assessment

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), Region 6 Office of Conservation Investment has prepared the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) titled, Cedar Valley Wildlife Management Area Proposed Shooting Range, Lincoln County, Nebraska (Project). The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has submitted a grant application request for the Hunter Education Range Program - Cedar Valley Shooting Range (F24AF03186; W-168-E-1) to receive federal grant funds through the Wildlife Restoration, also known as the Pittman–Robertson Act Wildlife Restoration Program, administered by the Service. The Service’s decision to approve the proposed grant application and fund construction and installation of the shooting range constitutes a federal action subject to the requirement of the National Environmental Policy Act.

The proposed Project will provide a safe, confined, and controlled area for shooting to take place. The Project will use 8.6 acres of the existing 880-acre Cedar Valley Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and modify it to provide a 100-yard rifle range and a 25-yard pistol range. Proposed amenities include shelters, shooting bays, parking areas, sidewalks, and a walking trail. The Final EA analyzes the environmental effects of the proposed construction at the Cedar Valley WMA. The assessment defines the Project’s purpose and need, describes the range of alternatives considered, and evaluated the effects of each alternative, including the impacts associated with the action proposed for federal funding.
