Kayakers observe sea otters from a safe distance along the central California coast. Kayakers should avoid disturbing resting sea otters by keeping a sufficient distance (at least 60 feet away is recommended), passing by parallel to the sea otters rather than pointing directly at them and moving slowly, but steadily past them.
