Threatened spring-run Chinook salmon, which spend years of their lives in the Pacific Ocean, were first reintroduced to the San Joaquin River as juveniles in 2014, like these fish from the state of California’s Interim Salmon Conservation and Research Facility. The San Joaquin River Restoration Program has since documented adults’ successful return from the ocean to the river.
