Providing seasonal water for wildlife and native coastal sage scrub habitat, this canyon is now permanently protected at the San Diego NWR in Jamul, CA. The acquisition provided an offset for impacts to three listed species from a local development project. At just over 85 acres, now Quino checkerspot butterfly, coastal California gnatcatcher, and Otay tarplant have additional permanently protected designated critical habitat within the Refuge. The canyon lies at the lower southeastern slopes of Mt. San Miguel with an eastern view to the Jamul Mountains.
