Fumika Takahashi, a biologist at the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge, checks the battery life in camera trap on top of a brush pile. The brush pile resembles structures built by endangered riparian woodrats that have recently reappeared on the refuge after not being observed for 8 years. The camera trap study aims to help the refuge learn more about the elusive woodrat and its habitat needs.
