Fumika Takahashi, a biologist at the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge, baits a camera trap with corn and oats in the hope of luring endangered riparian woodrats into the camera's frame. The refuge recently captured two riparian woodrats in humane traps, which marks the first time in 8 years that the rats have been observed. The camera trap study aims to help the refuge learn more about the elusive woodrat and its habitat needs.
