About this Collection

This library collection contains completed technical correction assessments produced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service). This collection includes only those assessments that have been completed outside of the context of a mapping project.

The John H. Chafee Coastal Barrier Resources System units are identified and depicted on a series of maps maintained by the Service. Only Congress has the authority to make significant changes to the CBRS maps through legislation (there are minor exceptions). However, property owners or other interested parties that believe a technical mapping error led to the inclusion of land in the CBRS sometimes submit requests to the Service for consideration that the land be removed from the CBRS. The Service reviews those requests through a process described on our CBRS boundary modifications webpage. In cases where legitimate mapping errors are found, the Service supports changes to the maps and works with Congress to revise them.

Other completed assessments may be found in the unit summaries included in Appendices D-K of our Report to Congress: John H. Chafee Coastal Barrier Resources System Hurricane Sandy Remapping Project or in the archived materials for other recent mapping projects accessible through our CBRS historical changes webpage.
