
Hunting and Fishing Regulations
Hunting and fishing regulations are designed to provide safe recreational opportunities through wise use of renewable wildlife resources. Hunting and fishing are permitted in accordancewithFederalregulationsgoverningpublicuseonNationalFishHatcheriesasset forth in Title 50 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
Hunting will be in accordance with applicable State of Michigan regulations subject to the conditionsstatedbelow.Brochuresmaybeobtainedbymail,atthehatcheryvisitorcenter,or from the hatchery website. WeallowthehuntingofuplandgamespeciesauthorizedbytheState,exceptforEnglish sparrows and European starlings, on designated areas of the hatchery subject to the following conditions:
- Weprohibitnighthuntingofuplandgamefrom30minutesafterlegalsunsetuntil30 minutes before legal sunrise the following day.
- Weallowtheharvestofferalhog,includingRussianboar,duringbiggame hunting.
- Weallowsportfishingondesignatedareasofthehatcheryonlyfromlegalsunrisetolegal sunset.
- BigGameHunting:bear,white-taileddeerand turkey
- UplandGameHunting:bobcat,ruffedgrouseand woodcock
Access
Huntersmayonlyaccessthehatchery1hourbeforelegalsunriseuntil1hourafterlegal sunset.
Hunters must park in designated parking areas, as identified on the map, to access the hatcheryforhunting.Youmustremoveallpersonalproperty,includingbutnotlimitedto boats,decoys,blinds,blindmaterials,stands,platforms,andcameras,broughtontothe hatchery at the end of each day’s hunt.
Prohibited Activities
- Possessionof alcoholic beverages
- Camping and fires
- Searchingfororremovalofanynatural items such as antlers, skulls, plants, historic, and archaeological features, are protected by Federal law.
- Boats,canoes,kayaks,etc.are prohibited at the hatchery
- Marking or flagging any tree or other hatcheryfeaturewithreflectors,paint, or other substance.
- GameRetrieval/ORV,ATVandUTVor anyothermechanizeddeviceusedfor retrievinggameortransportation,are prohibited.
- Permanent tree stands, nails, screw-in steps,orotheritemsthatpenetratethe outer bark of a tree are prohibited
- Huntingisprohibitedwithin450feetof any hatchery building or residences.
- Shooting on or over any hatchery road andshootingwithin50feet(15meters) from the centerline.
