Orchids have long been considered mysterious, and the lives of West Virginia's orchids are no exception. Many are pollinated by bees and butterflies, but one is pollinated by mosquitoes, and some are pollinated through deceit. Two orchids are winter-green and flower without leaves, and all our orchids mysteriously appear and disappear over the years. How is that possible?

This program takes place at the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center in partnership with the Canaan Valley chapter of the West Virginia Master Naturalists. The Wild Wonders lecture series takes place every third Saturday, April through October.
