Sparrows of New England Workshop

Many birdwatchers dismiss sparrows as “little brown things.” Yes, many sparrows are relatively small, and most are brown. Yes, they can be difficult to identify. But, upon a closer look, sparrows are amazing. They come in a wide variety of sizes, have beautiful plumages, and display different behavioral characteristics. After this PowerPoint lecture, you’ll be convinced that sparrows are something special–they deserve your careful attention.

Bill Gette will review 19 species of sparrows, including year-round residents that breed in New England, sparrows that migrate into our area during the fall and overwinter here, and rarities that occasionally appear. Bill will discuss sparrow taxonomy and nomenclature, review aids to field identification, and provide more interesting information.
