In Search of the Elusive Woodcock

The most dependable sign that spring is right around the corner is the return of the American Woodcock, a peculiar and unique bird of grassland and shrubland. They are the first migratory bird species to arrive each year, known for their elaborate and dazzling courtship flight. Meet a ranger for a presentation on the bird’s natural history and behavior, followed by a twilight walk through a popular meadow to see them in action! This outdoor presentation will be at Middle Island, near St. Marys. Be sure to dress according to the weather. Meet at the second parking area (where the buildings are located). The event begins at 7 P.M. and is free to the public.
