The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be hosting a follow up meeting to present and discuss Mackay Island NWR restoration scenario modeling results on Wednesday October 7th from 6pm-8pm at the Knotts Island Elementary School Gym. This meeting builds upon community input on various potential restoration solutions from the March 11th initial meeting. Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge has lost marsh to erosion and other conditions over time and expects this trend to continue. In an effort to protect remaining marsh habitats and restore lost marsh, the Refuge has had restoration scenarios modeled and will present these results in addition to next step efforts to interested community members with additional time for conversation following the presentation. Please join us at the Knotts Island Elementary School on Wednesday October 7th from 6pm-8pm to hear and discuss the modeled scenario results for protecting and restoring marshlands on Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge.
