Opening of the West Side of the Refuge Property

Big news! Our first phase of construction on the west side of the refuge has concluded and it is time for the west side to open back up again! We have a brand new Bosque Loop Trail that you can come explore starting Friday, October 14th!

The trail is a nice wide and open and 2.5 miles round trip. The trail takes you back to the bosque access as well as around our bosque restoration plantings and the new AMAFCA stormwater swale. We will continue doing restoration work in the area and are planning a new outdoor classroom, gathering area and new bosque access in the future. In the spring this trail will be a great way to see our new wetlands when they get their seasonal water. For now the new Bosque Loop Trail is open to pedestrians, bicycle riding and dog walking. The south side of the trail is also open to horseback riding. In the upcoming years we will bring more trails online including the perimeter trail to accommodate multiple user groups as well as limited vehicles by permit. We are excited to share this next big step in the refuge development with you.
