Nature Novice: Snowshoes

New to winter recreation? Learn how to snowshoe during our introductory program where refuge staff will teach participants how to properly wear and hike with snowshoes. Participants will gain experience by practicing walking forward, turning around, and learning how to go up and down hills. All snowshoe gear will be provided. Registration required.

What to Bring: Good walking winter boots. Monitor weather forecast and be prepared for the temperature and precipitation. A cancellation notice will be sent via email to registered participants in the event of severe weather.

Accessibility: A portable restroom is available at the Old Cedar Avenue pavilion. This walk takes place on mostly flat ground on natural surface paths. Depending on seasonal trail conditions, natural surface paths may not be suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Very few benches or rest areas exist along the route, though the parking lot is a short distance away and provides a covered seating area.
