Monthly Bird Census

This September, celebrate migration with us by joining refuge volunteers on Sunday, September 3rd, for the monthly bird census. Volunteers meet at the trailhead parking lot at 8:00 a.m. where you will then divide into teams to walk refuge trails and count all of the birds that you see. They even count mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, butterflies, damselflies and dragonflies. No experience needed, as our friendly volunteers are there to help every step of the way! Binoculars are recommended. Registration is not required.

Did you know that the monthly bird census has been happening at the refuge since 1970? This month, the monthly bird census is part of our Migration Celebration, a month-long celebration of the fall migration of birds, butterflies, dragonflies, and more. By joining the monthly bird census, you can “migrate” at least 2 miles or more!
