Join Park Rangers from the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and the Great Lakes Regional Manager of the Old-growth Forest Network on a hike into the Humbug Marsh unit’s old-growth forest.
This event is FREE! No tickets required.
**Meet at the front entrance of the Visitor Center.**
We’ll be going on a 2.25-mile guided hike. Dress for the weather and bring a bottle of water. Hiking footwear, preferably waterproof, is recommended because the trail could be muddy.
We will be celebrating the Humbug Marsh unit’s induction into the Old-growth Forest Network, “…a national network of treasured forests where all generations can experience native biodiversity and the beauty of nature.”
Along the trail we’ll hear a little history behind the Refuge Gateway and Humbug Marsh units, get to know a natural community that is unique to this region, learn to identify some of the trees that live here, as well as recognize some characteristics of an old-growth forest.
