2023 Youth Virtual Fishing Rodeo

Get Your Fish On June 10 – 11, 2023

Did you ever think you could win a fishing derby without paying an entry fee or weighing or measuring a fish? Here's your chance! The Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges and the Friends of Louisiana Refuges Inc. are hosting a Virtual Youth Fishing Rodeo during Louisiana free fishing weekend June 10-11, 2023. This is a great weekend to get out with family and friends and enjoy fishing - a state fishing license is not needed during these two days (other conservation regulations must be followed).

All youth 15 years of age and younger are eligible to participate for free! Here’s how to join the fun:

1. Youth who are 15 years old or younger fish the location of their choice in Louisiana waters between 5:30 am June 10, and 8:15 pm June 10. A fishing license is not required during Louisiana’s free fishing weekend.

2. Geaux fish during Louisiana Free Fishing Weekend and catch a fish!  Youngsters should make a sign that says #GetYourFishOn 2023 and display it with their catch and send a photo of the young angler holding their catch and the sign to us. Extra points for artistically decorated creative signs!

3. Send the photo to virtualfishingrodeo@gmail.com or to the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges Complex FaceBook page @Southeast Louisiana via Facebook messenger.

4. Have fun fishing!

Photos of anglers and their catch must be received by 4 p.m. Monday June 12.  Prize winners will be selected randomly from the photos received and will be announced Friday, June 16. Loaner fishing poles are available for people who can pick up pole in Lacombe, LA.

Email Virtualfishingrodeo@gmail.com with questions, or to reserve a loaner pole, or call 985-882-2015.
