Student spaces in USFWS-sponsored courses are filled with USFWS personnel first, collaborators and other DOI personnel second. If you work for one of the other DOI bureaus, contact your watercraft lead. Dates are subject to change.
A split course indicates the training days are not consecutive. The content of a split course is the same as any other course of the same type (e.g., MOCC, Airboat Module, Open-Water Module). Typically, travelers do not enroll in split courses because of the delay between the first (classroom) day and the following (field) days.
Course attendees must be: (a) able to wear a personal flotation device (PFD) and perform manual tasks while in the water, (b) on official duty (thus covered by worker's compensation), and (c) able to legally operate a motorized vehicle.
Common abbreviations used in this region: CRITFC = Columbia River Intertribal Fish Commission; UH-HIMB = the University of Hawaii - Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology; HFD = Honolulu Fire Department; OS = Ocean Safety - Honolulu; SBSA = Scientific Boating Safety Association; OSU = Oregon State University; IDFG = Idaho Fish and Game
Motorboat Operator Training Courses (MOTCs) and related (i.e., MOITCs & Open-Water Modules) sponsored by non-Federal entities and approved by the Scientific Boating Safety Association (SBSA) have reciprocity with corresponding DOI courses
