The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is seeking public comment on the Draft Compatibility Determination for Research on Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge in Hyde County, NC. The Service is seeking comments on the benefits and impacts of allowing research to be conducted on the refuge.

National Wildlife Refuges are required by law to determine the compatibility of any proposed or existing use with the mission of the National Wildlife Refuge System and the purpose for which a particular refuge was established. “Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge was established as sanctuary for migratory birds and is managed to benefit all native fish and wildlife resources,” stated Refuge Manager Kendall Smith. He added, “We want the community and the broader public to be informed about the activities being proposed and to have an opportunity to provide their input.”
