You Wouldn't Want These Cranes on a Construction Site

A flock of nine sandhill cranes mix it up with visiting migratory tundra swans on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge (not all nine made it into the photos). Sandhill crane sightings on the refuge, as well as the region are not common, but they are happening more frequently year after year. It may be that their habitat range is growing beyond their former geographic boundaries. Sandhill cranes are large birds. They can stand as tall as five feet, with a wingspan of up to seven feet.
