2018 California Junior Duck Stamp Award Ceremony

2018 California Junior Duck Stamp Award Ceremony

WHAT:       Awards will be given to over 100 students for their artistic talents in the California Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest.

WHO:         Over 100 winners will be presented with plaques and awards. The event is open to the public.

WHEN:       Wednesday, June 27 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (plaque ceremony at 5 p.m.)

WHERE:     Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Fremont, Calif.

WHY:         These students competed with over 2,200 pieces of artwork from school-aged waterfowl artists throughout California. This unique program is a non-traditional pairing of art and science to promote awareness of our nation’s resources including wetlands, wetland conservation, and waterfowl.

VISUALS:  Activities will begin at 4 p.m., and the award ceremony where students will receive plaques, their original art, ribbons, and gifts will begin at 5 p.m. The 100 pieces of award winning artwork for California will be on display including California’s Best in Show. Students and their families who attend the ceremony will also be able to enjoy walking along the scenic trails, hands-on activities about waterfowl, and a plankton lab.

This event provides an excellent opportunity for news media to highlight artwork created by kindergarten through 12th grade students from across the state. Many winners are from the Fremont and the Bay area.
