The hunt was announced concurrently with a State of Alaska hunt on non-federal lands in the same area. The State hunt is open from December 20, 1993, through December 29, 1993.
All federal public lands in Unit 18 are open for the hunt except that portion of Unit 18 north and west of a line from Cape Romanzof to Kuzilvak Mountain, and then to Mountain Village, and west of (but not including) the Andreafsky River drainage; and those portions contained in the Kanektok and Goodnews drainages.
Prior to opening the hunt, the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge manager conferred with the Association of Village Council Presidents (AVCP), village representatives, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and the chair of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Subsistence Regional Advisory Council. Federal subsistence regulations published in July provide for the winter hunt to be opened by announcement.
Hunters are reminded that a valid hunting license and a moose harvest ticket are required. Hunters who harvested a moose this past fall may not harvest an additional moose during this season.
For additional information concerning the opening, contact the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge at 800-621-5804 or 543-3151.
