Wildlife Watching

Wildlife observers will find a rich variety of animal and plant life. During migration, large numbers of birds can be found on all of the WPA's. Native prairie grasses, flowers, and other plants can be observed and studied at leisure on WPA's as well.

Wetland Management Districts serve many purposes, and one of our most important roles is as outdoor classrooms to teach about wildlife and natural resources. They provide unique and exciting outdoor environments – excellent locations for hands-on learning activities.

Is your school, youth, environmental or other group interested in learning more about the wildlife, plants, habitats and ecology of the District?  Contact us to check on program availability or check out one of our educational trunks.

A variety of brochures and informational materials are available at the District headquarters. Interpretive panels are found at the District headquarters entrance, Karl Mundt rest stop area, and near DeSmet - on the west side of Silver Lake WPA.
