During wet years when the lakes hold water, spectacular numbers of wading birds, shorebirds, waterfowl, and water birds converge on the Refuge offering exceptional opportunities to view these birds.  Mule deer and pronghorn also are present on the Refuge, as well as shrubland and grassland birds.
