Hunting is allowed in accordance with state and federal regulations on the more than 200 waterfowl production areas in the District. Hunters should be familiar with all hunting regulations provided in the North Dakota WPA Public Use Regulations document.

Spread over an eight-county area, waterfowl production areas in the District offer more than 48,000 acres of public hunting.

Waterfowl hunting is popular across the District. Canada geese, mallard, pintail, teal, gadwall, shoveler and redhead are common local nesting birds. Fall migrations bring other species which do not nest locally, such as snow geese, white-fronted geese, and sandhill cranes.

Upland game birds commonly hunted are pheasants, sharp-tailed grouse, and gray partridge.

White-tailed deer are also common throughout the District.
