Since 2013, the Air Force and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have been engaged in a formal partnership to conserve fish, wildlife, and other natural resources on Air Force lands across the United States. This close working relationship allows both agencies to advance their shared conservation goals on 10 million acres of federal lands on over 100 military locations. This cooperative effort works towards the recovery of 125 federally listed species on 10 million acres of Air Force-managed lands (32% of all Department of Defense lands) and sustains the military mission through exceptional natural resource management. The public benefits through expanded hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreation activities offered on some military installations. The Air Force benefits by gaining access to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s natural resource expertise and skills including species and habitat conservation delivery, wildland fire management, and conservation law enforcement.
