RENO, Nev. – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is hosting a virtual public hearing and reopening the public comment period on the agency’s May 2025 proposal to list Fish Lake Valley tui chub as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act. The species is found exclusively in two locations within Esmeralda County. Its primary threats include the loss of aquatic habitat and connectivity, surface water diversion and declining groundwater levels.
The public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, February 19 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time on the Zoom platform. The hearing will consist of a brief presentation on the species status assessment and proposed rule, followed by an opportunity for participants to provide comments.
