Congratulations to Icey Lyman, 16, of Crooked Creek who took top honors in the 2015 Alaska Junior Duck Stamp Contest with a chalk pastel drawing titled “Redhead”. A panel of five judges chose Icey’s artwork out of the 274 entries from across the state to represent Alaska in the National Junior Duck Stamp Contest held on April 17 in Shepherdstown, WV. A special Thank You to this year’s judges: Kyle Smith (Alaska Department of Fish and Game), Robyn Langlie (Audubon Alaska), Tom Evans (USFWS, Division of Subsistence), Luke DeCicco (USFWS, Division of Migratory Bird Management) and Nick Hajdukovich (USFWS, Division of Migratory Bird Management). Additional appreciation goes out to Francisca Gutierrez (USFWS, Division of Migratory Bird Management) for her assistance with many aspects of the contest and to Ducks Unlimited and The Moose’s Tooth for donations and financial support. The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest is the culmination of a year-long Junior Duck Stamp conservation program used by educators across the nation. This year, more than 28,000 students participated in state Junior Duck Stamp competitions in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
