U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Announces Record of Decision for Environmental Impact Statement for Ballville Dam Project

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in conjunction with cooperating agencies, has completed an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to analyze the disposition of Ballville Dam, including alternatives and associated impacts, as required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The Record of Decision was signed October 2, 2014, formally completing this process.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has selected the Proposed Action—Incremental Dam Removal with Ice Control Structure as the preferred alternative. Of the alternatives evaluated in this EIS, this alternative best fulfills the agency’s statutory mission and responsibilities while meeting the purpose and need.

The Record of Decision describes the process by which this decision was made and summarizes information gathered and analyzed throughout the development and completion of the EIS. It also includes an appendix with detailed responses to all comments received on the Final EIS.

The EIS and Record of Decision are available on the internet at:  http://www.fws.gov/midwest/fisheries/ballville-dam.html
