We host consultations with Tribal Nations to:

  • Honor our nation-to-nation relationship;
  • Hear directly from Tribal leaders as we address the health, economic, racial justice, and climate crises — all of which disproportionately impact American Indians and Alaska Natives; and
  • Commit ourselves to a process that addresses Tribal needs and ensures we respect and take input to heart.

Upcoming Tribal Consultation Sessions

What: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's invites Tribes to consult on the status of gray wolves in the Western United States as part of the Service’s 12-month finding on the species. The Service recognizes the historical and cultural importance of the gray wolf to Tribes. With that recognition and given the Federal Government’s tribal trust responsibility, the Service would like to extend this dialogue with Tribes through two scheduled consultations and any additional consultations requested. Read the invitation letter from Director Martha Williams to Tribal leaders.
