The upland sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda) is found feeding and nesting in grasslands--especially dry, short grasses, native prairie, or grazed areas. It nests in a shallow scrape in the ground, and its diet is mostly insects and some seeds. The upland sandpiper has an unmistakable call with the final note being a long whistle.
