Floating on the Clackamas River with the self-styled 'raft rats.' Fourteen middle school students with Springwater Environmental Sciences Middle School spent a day on August 9, 2023 on an outdoor field trip where they learned about the Clackamas River, native salmon, steelhead trout, Pacific lamprey, and other species, habitat restoration projects, recreational opportunities, and coho salmon programs at Eagle Creek National Fish Hatchery. The trip included a four-mile river float, a fish dissection lead by Eagle Creek Hatchery Manager Jeremiah Civil, and numerous stops at habitat restoration sites and other sites of interest. The project was a collaborative partnership between the Clackamas River Basin Council, We Love Clean Rivers, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. it made possible by 'Fish Funds' contribution made by the Service's Fish and Aquatic Conservation Program.
