A pair of short-tailed albatrosses dance together on Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge. This pair later mated and hatched a chick in the 2010/2011 breeding season. As of 2010, the short-tailed albatross population is estimated to be 1,200 birds. Of these, the total number of breeding age birds is thought to be approximately 600 birds.
