Short-eared Owl

Turning heads. The Short-eared owl, a partially diurnal owl, can be seen hunting over open fields, meadows, and marshes. This female is perched on a fence in McIntosh County, ND. Suprisingly, this owl nests on the ground in grasslands. Unfortunately, its numbers are in declude due to loss of habitat and grassland conversion.
