BE BEAR AWARE
Grizzly Bears are present on ALL areas of the Refuge to include, but not limited to: forest, willows, sage-steppe, grasslands, wetlands, lake shores, and creeks.
The carrying of bear spray on your person where it is READILY ACCESSIBLE is strongly recommended.
These grizzly bears are foraging along Lower Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in the open. Usually reclusive, after waking from hibernation, grizzlies' search for food can occasionally bring them into areas where they are more readily scene. Grizzly bears are traditionally an open plains/valley/ meadow creature, thus these bears are acting in normal capacity in the open foraging. Photo by Cortez Rohr/USFWS.
