A Florida Keys mole skink shows its head down to its front two tiny feet and lower body. Photographed from above, you can see its brown back with tan lengthwise stripes and glimpse the pinkish-red underbelly.

The slim-bodied, brown Florida Keys mole skink reaches five inches long and “swims” through the sand propelled by tiny legs and five-toed feet. These secretive lizards are only found on 23 islands of the Florida Keys in Monroe County, Fla.
