Collaborating with Johnston Atoll National Wildlife Refuge and others, the Coastal Program provides technical assistance by planning and monitoring the eradication of a super-colony of yellow crazy ants. Swarms of acid-spraying ants caused many birds to abandon their nest, including the red-tailed tropicbird (pictured). The ants were effectively eliminated and birds have returned to their nests.
