Red lines show herd range in 1854 spanning the continent from Canada’s Yukon Territory to Mexico, from Nevada to Virginia. Blue lines show herd range in 1876 in two pockets, one spanning from Texas to Nebraska and the other from Nebraska to the Yukon Territory. Green lines show range in 1883 show small pockets in Texas and Montana.
