Male Short-tailed albatross and chick

A male short-tailed albatross protects his chick. As of 2010, the short-tailed albatross population is estimated to be 1,200 birds. Of these, the total number of breeding age birds is thought to be approximately 600 birds. Image taken from USFWS Pacific Region Flickr page.
