Beginning in 2015, invasive house mice began attacking the nesting Laysan albatross colony at Midway Atoll causing widespread injury, nest abandonment, and death. These attacks put the world's largest Laysan albatross colony at risk. On March21, 2018, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced a proposed plan to protect the seabird colony on Midway Atoll.
