Original caption: Camp in the desert. Most waterholes in the area are at higher levels so campsites were usually at some distance from water. Trucks equipped for desert patrols carry 40 gallon water and gasoline tanks built on them. Because of the intense heat, a tarp like this one without sides is preferred to a tent. Around most of our camp we encountered rattlesnakes, as a result one carefully examined the ground when walking, particularly at night. Personnel in photo: Frank Dufresne, with camera; Bill Blanchard, patrolman, cooking; and Arthur f. Halloran, refuge manager. Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, Arizona, May 1949.
