This fluffy baby chick is a Kittlitz's murrelet, a rare and mysterious seabird that lives mostly in Alaska and some areas of Russia's far east. Biologists only recently discovered that the bird nests in the remote alpine slopes of the Refuge. Since 2008, a research project has studied these mountain nests in an effort to learn more about the murrelet.
