Previously known as "Point of Rocks Springs," Kings Pool was named after Charles King who lived in a stone house near the spring. Historical records credit him with being the first to bring a herd of cattle to Ash Meadows. In the 1960's, the spring was channelized to provide water for agricultural purposes. In 1997, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service began a number of restoration projects at Kings Pool and the outflow channel, restoring the pool to its original status.
