This small pond is the only remaining historic habitat occupied by Fish Lake Valley tui chub. Fish Lake Valley tui chub is currently a petitioned species for listing. This fish's populations have been extirpated in all but one of its historic locations. The historic range of the species included other small bodies of water in west-central Nevada near the town of Dyer. Fish Lake Valley tui chub evolved in a prehistoric lake that dried up when climate changed 500,000 years ago, isolating them in small springs on the valley floor. Credit: Nathan Hurner/USFWS
