Kevin Kelly, a program manager working for the Peery Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Lab, leads a group of researchers along a path in Lassen National Forest. The group is placing acoustic monitoring units in the forest in the hope of capturing the hoot of a California spotted owl. The crews place the units on tree trunks in April and return to pick them up in early summer.
